I have few clues to guide me where this nation was located. Plato doesn’t offer much help. Other nations in Plato’s list gave me a little more to work with. By placing them first, I assigned Ampheres one of the blank spots on the Atlantean map. You may be surprised where I put the Third Son of Poseidon. He probably wouldn’t be happy about it either. Again maybe the concept of Poseidon putting distance between the eldest son and his brothers that were closest in age bolsters my guess.
Another book you need to buy is “Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings” by Charles Hapgood.
Originally published in 1966, new editions came out because of renewed interest in his ground breaking work. I bought the 1996 edition Adventures Unlimited Press, Kempton Illinois.
Maybe I am wierd but this book fascinated me. When I had the chance to travel to London, I headed straight to the British Library to see if some of the maps he had studied might be housed there. There was a fascinating tour of various literary works on the main floor open to the public. I saw displays that included the Original lyrics by the Beatles, the Magna Carta, and early written examples of the Gospels.
Permission to obtain access to the upper floors required research privileges. I filled out the forms and was interviewed by a security official. I have to say it was a very cool moment when he took my photo and handed me my real live official British Library card. I felt thirty IQ points smarter just holding the thing.
I headed straight to the maps floor. I put in a request for some reference books on ancient maps. A gentleman dressed in suit and tie and white gloves smiled, nodded, turned on his heal and left the room. He crossed a hallway and headed towards the glass enclosed central core. He crossed a bridge with a little book cart through an airlock door that looked as if it had come straight out of a James Bond film. A while later I was CAREFULLY paging through books that were older than Martha Washington.
Skip Buckingham Palace. This is a lot more exciting.
Here is a map that Charles Hapgood introduced to me. When I saw this for the first time, the concept of Global Catastrophic Tilt didn’t seem so much like a concept any more. Staring at this map just screamed fact at me.
What’s so important about this map? Well for starters it is an accurate map of Antarctica.
Drawn before Antarctica was discovered.
Drawn using Spherical Trigonometry before it was invented.
Drawn the way Antarctica looked before it had three miles of ice covering it!
According to my calculations, Antarctica was not covered with ice until about 9,000 BC. According to Hapgood, the Earth was tilted about 25 degrees different from today. That difference placed Antartica in a temperate climate zone in the Southern Hemisphere similar to Ontario, cold but habitable. If the weather was warmer as the legends claim, then the climate for these two islands could even have been semi tropical.
You see where I am placing poor Ampheres. If I am right then it looks like the third son didn’t fare any better than the second son.
Could one of the nations of Atlantis have existed on Antarctica during a time when it did not have ice? By looking closely at the photo above note the rivers along the edges of the islands. I circled these river areas in blue. According to other researchers, NASA confirmed the accuracy of this map several years ago. That is according to things I read on the internet. That means I don’t know if it is true yet. I have a new friend in NASA who was very high up, is now retired, and has been very helpful fact checking things for me. I will double check this statement and edit this post when he has a chance to get back to me.
In my story Second Sight and in the sequel Vah ya Tu, I place two of the Atlantean Nations on Antarctica: Number three, Ampheres and number ten, Diaprepes. I did it only because I didn’t know where else to place them and they sounded similar to me. I thought perhaps they were placed on related land masses, in Yin Yang fashion. Since Antarctica was made of two islands that circled a shared sea, the land masses seem to express the Yin Yang.
I have other theories about the origin of this symbol. This symbol might be a memory marker for the agent of our global destruction three times in our past and one time in our future.
