I pulled a book out of my library pile this morning to dig a little deeper in Binary Star theory. A lot of my books are still in piles. I have to buy or build more book shelves.
The book is titled Lost Star of Myth and Time, by Walter Cruttenden, ©2006, St. Lynn’s Press, Pittsburg, Pa. If you want to investigate the binary star theory, this is a good book to have at your side. I don’t agree with everything Mr. Cruttenden has written. But he gives an excellent explanation of why Precession Theory (aka “Earth Wobble” theory) doesn’t work. He knocks Precession Theory off its axis faster than battling tops.
If you are like me, (then run and get a brain transplant as soon as possible.) then Precession Theory is complicated to understand and feels like it’s heading for a dead end. It has lots of huge words and long sentences that sound intelligent but are about as insightful as the instructions on how to set up surround sound. If you don’t even know what Precession is, don’t feel bad. I didn’t either until a few years ago. Somebody came up to me and asked me if I believed in Precession. I thought they were talking about a new religion.
Precession is the scientific term for what I think is commonly called Earth Wobble theory. You may have heard of this theory on the History Channel or Discovery Channel. It has been around for a while. Like many theories that aren’t getting anywhere, Precession seems to be on life support and perhaps should be put out of its misery. You can tell how much I like this theory.
The basic premise of Wobbly Earth theory is that the Earth wobbles on its axis in such a way that to an Earth bound observer, the stars seem to change location over a 24,000 year cycle. At the end of the cycle they return to their original positions relative to the now extremely old observer.
Okay, Earth wobbling. I can buy that. I have studied pole shift evidence, seen myths and oral histories describing the end of what I call the Second Age where the Earth was knocked off its axis and possibly tilted twenty two to twenty five degrees from original position, melting the old ice cap, raising ocean levels 800 feet, tidal-waving the daylights out of civilizations, etc. I understand the theory that far. The Earth could “wobble” as an after effect of a global catastrophe. The Magnetic North Pole is wandering around as we speak, perhaps as a lingering effect of an impact event or major seismic event thousands of years ago. The Mayans chart their calendar in a grand cycle of 24,000 years that seems to support Wobble Theory and an ancient knowledge of its existence based on long observation.
But there’s a problem. If the Earth is wobbling, then the entire sky should appear to shift during the 24,000 year cycle. It doesn’t. The whole sky doesn’t shift. Only that stars shift. The planets stay on course. If the Earth is wobbling why don’t the planets shift like the stars do?
I have gone to astronomy minded friends who are a lot smarter than me and asked them that question. My brain hurt as I tried to follow their answers. As hard as I tried, I could not understand what they were saying. Then I wondered, do they even understand what they are saying? I’ve heard a lot of people reciting things they have memorized during School and University that they are unable to explain or defend when pressed. Did they just memorize the stuff to get the grades, to get the degree, to get the job? Do they understand Precession enough to explain it in plain English?
According to my new friend Walter Cruttenden, they don’t. Walter doesn’t know we are friends yet, but maybe I will have the priviledge someday. He goes on to list entire chapters of possible flaws in Precession Theory. By the end of his book I was left wondering why the theory still existed.
In order for the entire solar system to remain “aligned” with the earth while the stars “move”, it has to “wobble” or perhaps more accurately move with the Earth in such a way that the stars outside our system seem to change position relative to the other planet’s orbital paths. Stay with me. I will try to explain this so we both understand. I am struggling with this too and am determined to figure it out.
The following analogy is based on one that Mr. Cruttenden gave. I think it fits. If it doesn’t work for you, blame me, not him.
Imagine our Earth is inside a huge car and we are looking out the passenger window of the giant car. The car is moving. The stars appear to go by the passenger window as we speed along. We see the same stars going by, each time dipping a little lower towards the window ledge, leveling out, and then rising a little more until after 24,000 years the stars are where we saw them at the start of the very long road trip. From such an observation we might conclude that the giant car got a flat, somehow fixed itself without stopping, and re-inflated itself. But what if each time we looked out the window, we noticed that the planets were not dipping below the window ledge, only the stars? Perhaps it would be because the planets were riding in the same giant car with the Earth and the car window we were looking out of was far beyond the last planet. The window of the giant car would have to be between all the planets and the stars.
Add the fact (according to Mr. Cruttenden) that the meteor stream known as the Perseids also do not shift but appear to be riding in the same car and we have to move the window even further out. It appears that the entire Solar System including possibly all of the orbiting objects beyond Pluto are riding in our car. The flat tire/magically inflating theory does not explain how the stars get back to their original position. But if the car was driving in a circle, or more accurately an oval, we could explain how the stars reset to original position. The car is doing a massive donut in space. Okay a squashed donut.
The only way our car or Solar System could be moving through space in an oval orbit is if it were attracted to another massive gravitational body. The gravitational body would have to be something we can’t detect easily. A black hole fits the bill. Did the ancients understand this? Could that be why somebody ancient created this symbol?
Could this carving that I saw in the Louvre (Turkey exhibit) be depicting two stars for the same reason?
Binary star theory explains the discrepancies of Wobble theory. If the Sun is dancing with another body such as a black hole in a binary orbit, the stars would appear to shift in a grand cycle and return to original position.
I encourage you to read up on this topic. We may discover more evidence with the WISE orbiting telescope in the coming months that will refute or support the binary star theory. We may be on the cusp discovering our Sun has a dance partner, possibly dark in more ways than one. According to legends it hurls comets and bolts of lightning whenever it is close enough. Isn’t the “good and evil connected” theme expressed in the Yin Yang symbol a fascinating parallel? And the Stella (carving) from ancient Turkey showing everybody climbing a mountain during the appearance of two suns. Could they be seeking higher ground during a time of cataclysmic crisis? They are all looking up, heading up the hill, and nobody is fighting.
Interesting fact I discovered that I don’t know what to do with: The Earth is 24,000 miles in diameter. Did somebody ancient decide to divide the diameter of the Earth by 24,000 and call the result a mile? Could the mile be another memory device designed to survive language change to help us remember important astronomical information?
Russ Wenner, my fabulous webmaster finally got me to sit still long enough to learn how to properly post blogs in time (He hopes) for the May 1stbook launch. If I do this right, my musings and research will be appearing on JFAlthouse.com and the characters of Second Sight will be interacting with you on SecondSightNovel.com. As you have hopefully noticed, Russ has been doing a heroic job getting the sites tweaked after Amy and Brad’s great work in the design and layout of the pages. Please check out all their links at the bottom of the pages or as you may have noticed, Russ taught me how to make links in posts. I am now a linking fool!
Thank you for reading. I am surprised and very grateful that there are so many of you visiting. Feel free to stop over at my FaceBook page and say hi.
Keep digging.

How do observers know that the stars dip as we look out the car window. Or – what is the evidence that the earth wobbles? Maybe these are too basic (-:
If you are having trouble understanding the Wobble theory, join the club. I don’t know anyone who has been able to make it clear. That is the first clue that it might be a theory to be discarded or at least put on a shelf.
As far as my analogy goes, my apologies. The author of Lost Star does the best job describing the star shift and how it has been measured.
A second source to check would be Graham Hancock’s excellent book “Finger Print of the Gods”
http://www.amazon.com/Fingerprints-Gods-Graham-Hancock/dp/0517887290/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1272632029&sr=1-1
Send me a note if you get a chance to check out these books and let me know what you thought. I am going to post my thoughts on the subject further after I get a chance to go through Hancock’s sections on the subject again to refresh my memory.
I recently saw a documentary which included an interview with Walter Cruttenden.
What I found most interesting and something I was completely unaware of is that the rate of precession is changing. Not just changing but the value of the constant that is added to the assumed rate is growing at an exponential rate.
One of the biggest implication of this is that it throws out many of the calculations on historical dates that are all based on an assumption that the rate of precession is constant.
On this page Walter http://blacksun2012.com/seventh-sign-2/ I’ve tried to create a diagram to illustrate the elliptical orbit of solar system around the companion neutron star or black hole. And show that while 6 signs of the Zodiac may pass very slowly, the other 6 may pass relatively quickly.
Nice work Andy. I went to the link and it is very impressive. I wonder if 2011 will show an acceleration and perhaps some tangible evidence of the black hole finally?
This is an excellent analogy,, probably known by ancient astronomers and perniciously kept from the average individual.. THX from planetxchef.com
thank you David !
The entire sky does shift. In another 10 thousand years the north pole will be facing Vega instead of Polaris. Summer will be winter and winter will be summer 10 thousand years from now.
Problem is, 25 thousand years is a long time for us to notice any movement in our lifetime. Your car scenario would make sense if you said the car was moving at 1 mile per 25 thousand years.
Thanks Sam,
Did you read Lost Star of Myth and Time by David Cruttenden?

I have recently purchased this book,,, and finding it an fantastic read !!!!,,,, thanks to JF for the tip on this little gem,,,, I would recomend this to anyone wondering what future may await our little world,,,,makes you wonder?????????
Like you, a few years ago I read Lost Star and it made my head spin and gave me a headache, then I read it again because I wanted to understand, Your analogy with the car was easier to understand than the train, after reading all the information I have on this topic it is so clear to me that we are part of a binary system. Our solar system travels a path that takes 24,000 years to complete. Our solar system is fixed in which earth is part of so within that it basically doesn’t change. During the 24,000 thousand years we are traveling the scenery changes until we complete the cycle and start over again. For me it seems simple and probably I am, I don’t have a bunch of alphabet letters behind my name to confuse and blind me…..
Thanks Julie. I had a hard time understanding what my well meaning astronomy friends were saying when they tried to explain that precession wobble theory. They sounded so sure of themselves as they spouted out what they had been taught. Then I realized they were simply spitting out what they had memorized and never took the time to actually think about what their instructors were saying. I have noticed many students now a days simply recite what they hear as fact without any critical thinking applied. Nice to meet someone else who is engaging their brain and willing to say “wait a minute, are you sure about that?” I just wish I’d had the courage to do that back when I was in school.
Sequel to Second Sight is coming out soon. I have a theory about how the Age ended that might parallel how our age will end. I call it the buzz saw theory.

Wow… I finally found someone else who gets it!!! I emailed walter with the black hole idea after studying the binary system and the precssion. He was not happy with the proposition. However, It has to be a black hole. A black hole with the mass of our sun would only have a radius of 3 kilometers. It would be nearly impossible to detect. Furthermore… Since we are speeding up… We are also in the “dipping” stage of inward motion because of the black hold’s curviture of space and time. This motion could account for the exponential expansion of our universe and solve the problem of the expanding universe at an increasing rate without the need for dark-energy. The universe is expanding exponentially, away from us in all directions, because we are falling “inward” as we approach the supermassive object. The binary system solves so many problems!!!

Thank you Damian. I have continued to work on this theory. I have some new evidence supporting the existence of a black hole that might interest you. I have started predicting when the other planets get hit by asteroids and comets. I am three for three so far. I posted my latest research on my facebook page while this website transitions to accommodate the sequel, Second Birth.

Thanks for your way of explaining the procession of the equinox. The wobble theory never made sense to me. Especially when people bring in the idea of a top wobbling…like somehow it’s a standard principle of science we all should understand…It seemed like the subtext was ‘it’s easy to get…it’s like a TOP for cryin out loud’ When the Mayans talked about 2012 being the end of a year of the sun. And that the sun had it’s revolution too it all made sense to me. Of course! I thought, the planets are following the sun as it spirals through the milky way. Just like the planets are spiraling around the fast moving sun. But I never knew how to explain it decently or had anyone show any interest in the idea. Or how to even think about it myself so that I could picture how the sky would look if we were spiraling with the sun.
Your understanding of the planets responding differently than the stars really helps. Thanks so much for your deep thoughts and interesting perspective.
Hello Teri,
Thank you for your post. I am glad to have been of some help. You might want to check out Lost Star by Walter Cruttenden
I hope I linked that correctly. Walter does an elegant job debunking wobble theory and builds a case for our sun having a binary twin. Some of my friends who have degrees in earth sciences seem to be my harshest critics when I question wobble theory, despite the fact they clearly don’t understand it while reciting it’s dogma. Question everything. Including me. You will help me become a better thinker in the process.

Not being encumbered by a lot of scientific background or intelligence lets me come up with pretty off-the-wall ideas. One of them is that I one hundred percent think the sun IS spiraling around the galaxy….I wonder if it’s the nature of the universe to spiral, like DNA, and that there doesn’t need to be a black hole or a brown dwarf start even involved. Perhaps the spiral is inherent in moving through space…..
I have to tell you… people do not like this hypothesis. Telling people that the solar system may be in orbit around a black hole is a very scary proposition to most people. We like to talk about black holes as being very far away. We do not want to hear of one being in our direct neighborhood regardless of the evidence. I think that the biggest hurdle we face is trying to get people to not be afraid of the theory. I’m a teacher and all my close friends at work give me a really hard time about it. I’ve talked about this with the astronomy teacher and he came back at me with the “wobbling” earth theory. As I pressed, I realized that he had very little understanding of the “wobbling earth” theory itself. A black hole orbit does not scare me. I just like the truth of things. Perhaps the cataclysmic events described in ancient texts foresaw the “end of things” or “judgment day.” It’s possible that we could actually witness, from a very real physical sense, the “sun being blotched out,” and “the stars falling from the sky” if the earth crosses an event horizon of a black hole. These are things that are described in ancient religious texts including Revelations. Who knows… perhaps we’ll be in orbit around this black hole for another billion years. The facts are that we do not know AND NO ONE IS STUDYING IT or even giving it the time of day. Walter is stuck on the “other star” explanation. The evidence suggests that the solar system is in one giant orbit around something that takes approximately 26,000 years to complete. That something can only be ONE THING if we do not see it or detect it. A black hole.
I am in the same camp. Another colleague believes the black hole is only three miles in diameter. Talk about the proverbial needle in haystack. I am not worried about falling into a black hole. I am more concerned about what might be orbiting the black hole and crossing our solar system’s path. If the sun and the black hole are both moving in a binary orbital dance, the stuff orbiting both would cross paths. That crossing event might be the source of ancient cataclysms.
Thank you for your post Demian.
Jack
Look at this another way: everything we know revolves around something else on ever greater scales. People believed the Earth was at the centre and Copernicus was ridiculed. Surely then the Sun and our Solar System does not simply travel smoothly around the galactic centre in parallel with neighbouring stars. Is it not far more likely that we orbit some local central cluster point? Why have astronomers never considered this first? To say that the poles precess and that our Solar System does not rotate is much more incredible than saying we orbit a companion, but this is what we are taught. and what has become established “fact”.
Ever since my school days and up to post graduate level, precession of the poles has been taught to me as well-established fact, and the figure of 25 920 years often stated. Only recently have I looked into it in more detail and found it riddled with problems and nowhere near as precise as is claimed. I am less interested in the actual cause of precession than I am in how this dubious theory became so established and unshakable. I feel cheated. If so basic mechanics can be misinterpreted like this then what confidence is there in theories on the evolution of the universe?
Hi Andy,
It is well known from the ancients, Sumerians, dabylonians and Particuraly the Egypthian of the other sun – Sirius,
it is e well known fact among the deep occultist.
by the way, as the nazis were into the occult, they knew very well about the blac sun, and soeculated about it a lot.
It is very weird that our modern scientists keep very quiet obout it, maybe not to stir panic?
there are discordant theories how the binary solar system works,
one theory assume that our whole visible son with all its planets go around that black sun,
the other theory assumes that the two suns orbit one another in eliptic revolution,
don’t know which theory is right, trying to find out.
Ever consider that due to how far away these objects are we are still seeing the light from when they were in a particular spot so they seem to appear still and not moving? The planets in our system are much closer and in ” real time” whereas the nearest star is extremely far and it takes 1000s of years for the light from said star to reach us; perhaps we see the light from the stars in their old positions and not in their new ones? I’m no scientist nor do I hold a doctorate but I do know some stars in the sky do not exist anymore but are so far away we still see the light. Just a thought.

Hello Viki,
I am right there with you. I get so many comments back about that (in my opinion) dumb theory about wobble earth. Drives me crazy. Almost as much as “don’t I believe the aliens came down and gave us the technology theory” I have been putting some more effort into binary star theory and posting it on the website. Did you see this one?
http://jfalthouse.com/new-stuff/how-i-think-the-sun-might-have-been-born-during-the-death-of-another-star/
At this point I don’t think the sun orbits a black hole. I think the sun does a binary orbit with a dead star. This would be a star that lost mass and became too small to re-ignite. I think it is about 1.5 to 3 light years away from the sun which would put it inside the oort cloud. This theory by the way explains how the earth could exist before the sun exists as mentioned in Genesis. I noticed other cultures have the earth existing before the sun is created as well, such as the Egyptian creation story.
Thank you for your interest in my work Viki. I really appreciate your support!

Hello Vicki !
I have been looking at a new theory that is binary star but not involving a black hole. I think you are right about that. I am posting on the website. Would be interested in your thoughts.
