I finished reading through the final manuscript for Second Sight today. After five years, it is hard to believe this book is going to print.
The story is about the Second Age, the Age of Atlantis. A lot of people ask me where I think Atlantis was. A better question is to ask where it wasn’t. Read Plato’s Timaeus and the Critias. My favorite version is the Complete Works of Plato, Jowett translation, Tudor Publishing Company, New York.
I got a used copy on Amazon for about seven dollars.
Plato used an interesting way of describing the size of Atlantis and its location. Atlantis was a ten nation empire the size of Asia and Libya. He called it an island bounded by an ocean that made the Mediterranean look like a harbor. Here is what ancient Libya looked like:
Libya covered most of North Africa back then.
I took the area of ancient Libya and the area of Asia and compared the landmasses to the North and South American continents.
then i superimposed them to see how closely they matched:
Look the same to me!
North and South America are technically an island in the middle of an ocean. I think Plato was describing Atlantis and locating her at the same time. I believe Atlantis was the entire continent of North America and the entire Continent of South America. Along with some other real estate that I will try and go into tomorrow. Hope you liked this.
